1985 Panasonic RX-FM25 Boombox, upgraded with Bluetooth, Rechargeable Battery and an LED Music Visualizer

Classic 80s Boombox, modernized for the 21st century by the Analog Guardians.

Bluetooth audio, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and an LED music visualizer were added, while preserving all the original functionality and appearance.

The boombox was artisanally cleaned, repaired and restored to its original functionality. A specific upgrade plan was then created, utilizing premium components to ensure high reliability and sound quality, while preserving the original 80s usability and aesthetics.

• Bluetooth 4.0 AAC APT-X using a Qualcomm chipset provides seamless pairing to multiple devices and enables true HiFi listening experience.
• Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries using quality EBL cells and a balancing battery management system will run the Boombox for up to 8 hours and retain charge capacity for many years, making the boombox truly portable.
• LED music visualization developed by the Analog Guardians is user-controllable for color, brightness and style, to complement every tune in an 80s-chic way.
• An internal Meanwell power supply provides safe operation across world voltages (100-240vac) and has ample power to operate the boombox’s original and new electronics - and continue to do so while still charging the batteries.
• All the original functionality has been preserved and calibrated to the original specifications. AM and FM Stereo reception is flawless, compact cassette tapes can be played and recorded from the radio, the internal microphones or even from Bluetooth, making the creation of a mixtape from streamed content a real option.
• Panasonic’s original “AMBIENCE” sound processing has been also preserved, and can widen the stereo effect for FM, cassette tapes and Bluetooth.
• The FM Stereo indicator can still light up in red when receiving FM broadcasts in stereo, but can also light up in blue to indicate Bluetooth pairing status.
• When Bluetooth-pairing to the boombox, its actual name (“Panasonic RX-FM25”) comes through as the ID.
• A new, printed manual was compiled, covering in detail all the original features, the new features and safety considerations.

This upgrade was made possible through an extensive research and development effort, including custom PCB design and manufacturing, RF interference analysis and shielding, CAD design, 3D printing, integration, assembly - and thorough testing. While it may seem as a straightforward modification, upgrading older electronics with newer capabilities requires great attention to detail, to ensure clear, noise-free sound quality, preservation of original features and usability and, of course, safe operation.

Please note:

• To ensure safe operation, the boombox can no longer operate using “dry” (alkaline) batteries. But the included rechargeable battery will prove to be far more versatile and much more environmentally friendly.
• The “Analog Guardians” vinyl decal seen in the photos is easily removable by the buyer and would leave no paper residue if removed.

The fine print: the boombox, while meticulously restored and cleaned, is about 40 years old and can show some patina and minor scratches when examined very closely (under 1 foot / 30 cm). The photos are of the actual boombox being sold. It still looks very good, the Analog Guardians will guarantee its operation for 90 days and it can be returned, for any reason, within 30 days after purchase. No questions asked.

To clarify - no other accessories are included. Demonstration photos may show other accessories, such as cassette tapes, external music sources, audio cables, audio recorders, etc. Such accessories help demonstrate potential uses of the boombox, but are not included in the sale.

Packaging and shipping:

The boombox will be packaged box-in-a-box, in a “retail-like” package created by the Analog Guardians, to help protect the boombox in transit, as well as provide an 80s-like “unboxing” experience. To clarify: the package is not the boombox’s original package, but a recreated one, to give it an original “look and feel.”
