About This Listing

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a unique 1950's era Turner 99 dynamic microphone made into a custom LED lamp. The 9 series came in a few different models and had a production run of about 20 years until it was eventually discontinued for the more modern style hand held mics that were becoming far more practical. This style of mic was quite popular and many early mic companies made similar designs incorporating the large round head with lower yoke in which the head would pivot.

Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old 1950's catalog I have.

The 99 was a durable affordable dynamic mic that was quite popular in the Turner line up and used for a variety of purposes including broadcast, recording and singing. This was not an ideal mic for singing but many mics of that era were used for such purposes.

The 99 had an all metal painted body and metal yoke which can screw onto any desk or floor stand you might have. The yoke gave you the ability to adjust the mics angle accordingly.

I should start by letting you know that this mic lamp is made by a gentleman in Canada named Gord D Birtch who is a Jack of all Trades. An artist and all around good guy with an eye for these older mics. I have several of his mic lamps at my residence and have been collecting them for almost a year. I send him the microphones and he turns them into this finished product.

All of the mics are gutted, cleaned and professionally wired with high quality, efficient American L.E.D lights. Gord will often install metal mesh screen in his mics. Some do not have them but it really comes down to how the mic is designed and how we want the light to be thrown. This 99 still has it's original metal front screen that gives a nice ambiance when lit.

The 99 has a single LED that gives off a warm glow as you can see in the pictures provided. It has a spot light vibe.   This will make an excellent accent piece anywhere in the home, studio or office. You can read next to this light if needed but it has more of a medium powered light. I do have much stronger lamps if needed.

If you'd like to contact Gord directly please just let me know and I'll provide you one of his links here on Ebay. I'm just trying to get his name and recognition out there. His work is top notch. Again, I have several of his pieces in my residence and everybody who comes over absolutely loves them.

The 99 itself is in very good physical condition. The mic is free of any dents or fractures and the original umber brown painted finish and has just lite wear in the the form of some paint chips and lite scratches. Zero dents or fractures however. The joint mechanism / thumb screws on this mic have good tension and works perfectly allowing you to tilt the head backwards and forwards putting light wherever you need it. A cable connector is attached to the mic as it would be naturally completing the effect of the mic.

The cable itself is a high quality cloth covered item and has an older vintage feel to it. It's appx 9 feet in length and has an on / off switch as you can see in pic # 8. Simply plug this in and your good to go. I believe these LED's are rated at 50,000 hours.

This in actual Turner 99 model mic. Not a replica. I can't talk these lamps up enough. More like sculptures and I was told Gord is going to be numbering these like paintings to indicate his particular work. He'll be making several more of these lamps in many makes and models so this is going to be more than just a lamp but an investment. Regardless, one of the coolest lamps you could own and perfect for that mid century vibe and an excellent gift for just about anybody.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

I have plenty of older desk and floor stands if one is needed for this mic. Please just ask and I'll show you what I have.

                     And as always...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. International buyers are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.

If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
