DESCRIPTION
The MKS No. 2 is a professional grade, "half-decoration" Karaj Pancham / Ravi Shankar style sitar. Monoj Kumar Sardar & Bros. (a.k.a. "MKS" or "Sardar") is a well established name in Kolkata. This is one of their better sitars. The tone is full and clean with a nice depth and resonance. The action and meend are superb. It feels even and balanced up and down the scale.
We have these in our inventory in the U.S., and they are each set up in our Urbana, IL shop before shipping. They are traditional "Ravi Shankar style" in orientation with 7 main strings and 13 taraf/sympathetic strings. The fit and finish of this sitar is outstanding. The carving and penwork are ornate.

DISCLAIMER
While much of India’s economy is rapidly advancing, the Indian instrument manufacturing process remains comparatively unchanged. It is a cottage industry, and new products made using these traditional methods will appear handmade as compared to electric guitars or keyboards made in an Industrialized manufacturing setting. From touch-ups to tuning, at Old Delhi Music, we add several layers of quality control to an otherwise non-standardized production process. When a particular unit’s cosmetic appearance falls below the standards of what we consider “normal” or “acceptable,” we will label these as “B-stock.”
Please be in touch if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Old Delhi Music
