The Martin guitar company has built quite a following since 1833. When people come into the shop, they already know a few names of manufacturers, and Martin is one of the most common mentioned. With such a long line of quality products over the years it's hard to not find their products in the hands of some of the greatest artists in music history. In many of those hands is a D-18. First introduced to the public in 1934, the 14 fret, spruce top, mahogany back and sided tone machine had people’s ears at full attention. A loud, bassy, clear, full sounding guitar that can back up a horn player, fit into or drive a bluegrass band, inspire folk style masterpieces and denotes a wide range of dynamics when fingerpicked, the D-18 has been the choice of many hard working musicians and tone connoisseurs.
Undeniably one of the most iconic American guitars of all time, the Martin D-18 has been a studio and touring workhorse for countless musicians. It's a staple of bluegrass flatpickers, folk strummers, country players, pop songwriters and everything in between. Vintage specimens, particularly pre-1970s, are extremely collectible, while more modern specimens remain excellent players and investments. Once you play one, you'll understand why the Martin D-18 has become a go-to for so many.
