About This Listing
1981 Hondo 748 L P Burst Copy . Rare and Cool!
Another rare and cool Hondo 748 set neck Burst copy up for sale.
If you are not aware of these guitars they were made briefly in the early 80s for a year or two. They are high quality and have a set neck . These are an Asian take of the "Burst" that are pretty obscure today.
I've owned a few of the Revival by Hondo versions of this guitar. I like this one better. This 748 has a big beefy neck like a '58. The Revivals have Grover tuners but the necks are like thinner '60s.
This guitar feels and plays like a Gibson. It sounds good too. They are a relatively solid mahogany back and neck with some kind of pressed maple top. The body is sandwiched and it has a two piece neck heel . The headstock has a joint too.
The weight is over 9 lbs. The color of the back and neck is great. It looks like a cherry finish Gibson. The top is an orangish fade. condition wise the guitar is very good. It is completely original and even has the goofy white knobs. I may swap a few parts like the switch tip and the knobs for something a little more Burst like.
So here you go. Its been a while since I have seen another for sale. If you like this kind of thing here is your chance to get one. These are good guitars and they are pretty uncommon. There are a jillion times more real Gibsons that span 70 years if you want that. The Hondo 748's were only made for a year or two.
Funny, I have owned more real Bursts (5) than these Hondo Burst replicas (3). Do me a favour-Only serious inquiries from interested buyers please.
These are very similar to the MIJ Fresher Gen 3 and Gen 4 guitars. The Freshers have the same pancake body and the same neck heel . I just bought one of the Fresher Gen 3's and I am curious to compare the routing between the two guitars.
Sold as-is no returns. Shipping is $70 in the States and $165 outside the States if the USPS can be used.
