This is a great project guitar, with a beautiful hard maple neck, or a perfect 1930’s L-12 neck for someone who needs a correct vintage neck. Impossible to find Brazilian Rosewood body from the late 1950’s.

 This project has three options:

Keep it as is, it played great as a set up guitar.

Or use the neck for a vintage restoration, and :

Use the Brazilian Rosewood body in it’s archtop form

Convert the Brazilian Rosewood body to a flat top.

The neck is rare, impossible to find 1935 L-12 neck, with the 7 piece “Diamond Star” headstock inlay. This neck headstock inlay was also used on a very few “Gibson Special” Models, which were an L-00 with a Brazilian Rosewood body and enhanced ornamentation.

The maple neck is made from extremely high-quality maple, which looks like what Fender called “Hard Rock Maple”. Back of the neck finish has been over-sprayed, but it looks great.

Shoulders of the neck are round. Neck profile is round, with a slightly flat back. This neck is beautiful.

Great for a restoration, or for a new build using and old wood hard maple and Brazilian Rosewood fretboard with original inlays. Brazilian Rosewood fretboard has been re-fretted.

Neck Measurements:

Nut : 1.69” or  1 45/64’s at the nut. 2” 9/64’s wide at the 12th fret.

.90 first fret

.94 7th

1.21 12th fret
Scale Length: nut to 12th fret measures 12 11/16th inches approximately.

Included with this is a rare Brazilian Rosewood back and sides archtop body, some undetermined model, probably a high-end Kay body, with checkerboard trim. Brazilian Rosewood is expensive today, and a lot of it is stump wood. This body could be converted to a flat top, or kept as is for an archtop build. It would be hard to touch a Brazilian Rosewood body like this for under $500 at today’s wood prices.

Body dimensions:

At bass bout : 16 inches

At Treble bout: 12 inches

Body length : 20 inches

Thickness at bass bout 3 5/8th

Thickness at treble bout 3 3/8ths

No case but will be double boxed for shipping, and will be well packed.
