Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a gorgeous 1960's era Shure Brother's 580A dynamic cardioid microphone with original shortened cable, original Shure mic clip, data sheet and 580A box. This package deal is pretty unique considering the physical and working condition. This is the early version of the 580SA microphone. Made in the U.S.A and built to last.

Pic # 2 is from a 1968 Shure catalog showing the 580SA and SB version. Before those models there was simply the 580A. This is probably a 1965 model. The 580A is basically the later 580SA model.

The 580A kind of looked like the 545 model of it's day but it's about twice the size and weight of the 545. It has a very aggressive look to it as well.

The 580A microphone utilizes a dynamic cardioid element that's in perfect working order and was originally set at High Z. It has far less bass than a low impedance version and will be great for general broadcasting or singing if you like a "rockabilly" tone. Very strong output as well.

It's uni-directional too picking up only the sound that's directly in front of it.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                The 580A has the satin chrome housing with black plastic tip and chromed mesh screens. It comes with an ON / OFF switch and a permanently attached 7 inch cable with the Switchcraft male XLR end connector for use with all longer XLR cables. It should be noted however that only a female XLR to male 1/4 inch extension cable will work with this mic. It's not balanced. An XLR to XLR extension cable will not work. The cable is soft, pliable and excellent.

The Shure label encircling the tip is legible and in excellent condition. As you can see there is zero wear on this 580A. It's absolutely mint. They just don't ever come this nice. Not a scratch. The plastic front is free of fractures or scuff marks and the screens are free of odors, tarnish or dents. A new inner pop filter was installed as the original was all but gone.

The mic clip is an original all metal Shure A-25 model that works perfectly for this mic and has a wide degree of tilt up and down giving you the angle you need. It fits snug and holds the mic perfectly. Clip is just as nice as the mic. This all metal A-25 model clip was the original. Shure still makes the A-25 model clip but they have all been plastic since the mid 1960's.

The data sheet is also included. Very nice condition and has a ton of technical info on this model microphone.

Original 580A box comes with this mic. It shows typical wear but still a great accessory and a good place to store everything while not in use.
