The Jazzmaster premiered at the 1958 NAMM show and was marketed as their top of the line 6-string. Originally marketed towards the jazz players of the era the Jazzmaster found its home in surf music of the 60's. As time went on it thrived in rock and alternative music scenes, many players choosing the model as a less costly alternative to the more ubiquitous strats and telecasters.

This 1959 example exhibits some unique features, most notably is the gold anodized pick guard, only available for the first two years of the model. The fingerboard is "slab board" style with clay dot inlays. Later models would transition to a veneer fingerboard and later on the clay dot inlays were replaced with pearloid. For its era the controls for the pair of single coil pickups and the tremolo were quite unique.

Condition wise this example has some points worth noting. The body and neck have been re-finished. We believe the work was done at MJT. That being said the finish does exhibit both wear and checking consistent with a lacquer finish. We cannot determine if the finish was relic'd at the time of the work or if it naturally accumulated through play. The photos illustrate the overall cosmetic condition, if you would like any detail shots of a specific area please let us know as not every bit of wear can be documented.

The electronics are functioning great and appear to be all original. The pot codes that are visible (137-850) indicate a manufacture year of 1958, this in conjunction with the serial number on the back plate indicate a 1959 construction date. Please note that one of the pickup cover screws is missing from the neck pickup.

The frets are original and show moderate wear but the guitar is playing great with a set of 10's.

The tuners are original and all function but do show and feel their age through normal use. The original tweed case is included but shows significant damage. One of the latches is missing, much of the tweed is torn, the interior is weathered. It is structurally sound enough for at home storage but I would not rely on it for travel.
