1929 Vega Whyte Laydie #2 5-string banjo. An amazingly beautiful instrument in remarkable condition. I bought this from Elderly Instruments in 2018 after having it on my wish-list for over 20 years. They sold it as a 1929, but I have been told it may be a 1932. Also, the OHSC may or may not be original, but I am no expert. (It doesn't seem to have been built for a 5-string, but for a plectrum, but the 5th string peg fits in fine, thanks to some rather crude work that was done in that area.) This classic plays perfectly and has that unique, haunting, characteristic tone that made it a legend. It came with a new, very high quality, and very expertly installed skin head and new frets. I have not played it much, being primarily a fiddler, and having not had as much demand lately for my stylings on the five-string merrywang. The few flaws are as follows: The button shafts on the top two tuners are bent, but perfectly functional. There is a string-wear scallop under the second string on the fret board between the nut and first fret. (Who uses that?) There is string-end scratching on the surface of the peg head around the lower two pegs. That's it. Otherwise, just beauty. I can supply the potentially OHSC, or I can send it in a very high quality case that came with a Deering Vega Tubaphone re-issue that I bought earlier.
