About This Listing

Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a high quality Shure Brothers PE50SP model "Super Pro" dynamic cardioid microphone that is probably one of the least known or appreciated microphones from the 1970's / 80's. This mic has been cleaned and tested. It comes with the newer Shure mic clip, exterior pop filter, cable and vinyl mic pouch. This unique microphone was factory set at Low Z and has more of a mid range sound to it's tone. Built like a tank, very rugged and sounds like the day it was sold.

Pic # 2 is from an old Shure 1974 Shure catalog showing the PE50SP. It doesn't go into great detail on the mic but it seems to be the forerunner to the SM58 with the main difference being the on / off switch and impedance setting. It looks almost identical. These PE50SP mics hold up very well with age being a testimony to it's quality American build and I have yet to come across one that no longer works.

I did recently sell one of these to a gentleman who told me he had bought one brand new around the late 1970's for $300.00 so this was certainly a higher end Shure mic at that time. He missed his old PE50SP and that he was looking to buy another one after all these years. He loved that mic and loves the replacement he got just as much.

I can tell you that this model has a fabulous sound to it. It has less bass than an SM-58. More like a Shure PE56D, 565 model or 565S model mic. These mics are uni-directional picking up only the sound that's directly in front of the screen cancelling out most background noise making it ideal for situations where audience noise, audio equipment or fellow band members might be a problem. It has an all metal body with a stock painted finish. It has the typical SM-58 style globe / screen as well. The PE50SP comes with an on / off switch that's slides smooth and works just as it should...no issues.

I have checked the inner foam pop filter and it was no good so a new one was installed. This greatly reduces the dreaded "pops" you get from breathing or windy conditions. This mic is 100% and ready for any live performance. For added performance I'm including a brand new exterior foam pop filter that fits like a glove and while you don't have to use it it...you may very prefer doing so.

These PE50SP mics are lite weight and can be handheld for prolonged periods of time...or placed in a mic clip. Your choice.

As you can see there are virtually no signs of wear on the painted handle and incredible for a mic of this age. This is absolutely the nicest looking example I have ever come across. The mic is free of any dents or fractures as well. The Shure label looks very nice and completely legible. The globe is free of any dents, odors or corrosion. Mic is 100% complete and solid. No loose parts.

 I would rate this mic a true 9 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

The clip is a newer Shure model but works perfectly. Gives the mic a wide degree of tilt up and down and the softer compound won't scratch the handle. It will screw on to any American desk or floor stand as well.

The newer Shure vinyl mic case is included and in excellent condition. Zipper works great and this pouch will protect your mic while not in actual use.

The cable is just as nice as the mic and has two XLR end connector. Soft, pliable and perfect working. It's a Shure model cable and 15 feet in length.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY...NOT PART OF THIS SALE.

This rarer mic should do you justice and it's always cool to use something that few others musicians have or know about.

 And as always...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The return shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. BUYER MUST PAY WITHIN 24 HOURS or will lose rights to this item, unpaid item report will be filed and will be relisted. If you don't intend on buying this...do not commit to buy please. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.

If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
