Offering my McFarland L-00-DBMW Baritone 8 string!
Black Walnut body, Maple neck
So, I used to have a Taylor 8 string Baritone, and it was a great guitar. But, I wanted to do one of my own, and here she is.
The L-00-DBMW stands for "Deep body, Maple Walnut".
Based on the L-00 body shape, but with a little added depth for those deep tones. And who doesn’t like that sweet combination of Maple and Walnuts?!

-Red/White herringbone back strip

This guitar is one of a kind. The Baritone scale guitar is a great addition to a collection, with some really unique sounds available. Adding the two octave strings to the 3,4 adds a hint of highs, and I placed mine under the heavier strings, similar to a Rickenbacker 12-string. Made it less jangly than my Taylor 8 had been. Strung with 16-70 gauge strings (Elixir makes an 8-set) and tuned down to B to B Standard tuning, Drop A, or many Open tunings, she’s a great kanoodler, or great for accompanying another guitar like a Bass would do, but with more variety.
The K&K pickup is a Passive system, no battery required, and sounds very pure and realistic. The Tonewood Amp (Google it if you’re unaware of the Tonewood) really adds some flavor as well!
YouTube link is below, from right after I finished this build about a year ago. She has stayed very stable and intonation and setup is spot-on now. I can provide additional sound clips on request.
I haven’t figured out a case for this yet. The neck is too long for a regular L-00 case. If you’re interested, I can look around for a Gig Bag, but no matter what, I will pack very securely for Shipping.
Thanks for looking
Brian
