This is a 1972 Neumann U87 with a coveted Klaus Heyne modification. It has been stored in a dehumidified cabinet during my ownership, which was since 2009. I do now know the history of ownership prior. I rate it fair based upon the condition I observe, but to be fair to a 1972 microphone, I think the condition is great. The plastic finger tab for the LCF is broken. The filter adjustment can still be carefully made with an eraser tip or something blunt and is a cheap part to change if desired. The modification changes the behavior of the electronic circuits. Basically there is no longer a pad, and when the pad is out, a highly modified signal path is made in the cardioid mode, regardless of the polar pattern switch. With the pad switch engaged, you are then able to select polar patterns other than cardioid with the switch. There's plenty of information available online describing the positive qualities of the modification. Mic sounds great, fully functional, had never intended to sell but large expense coming up that I must. No cleaning has been attempted ever other than wiping the mic body.
