I based this Martin Custom Shop build on the 00-18V that Martin offered in 2014. On page 2 of the Custom Shop order sheet, the items in bold represent the customizations I made. First up is the 12/4 neck, which just means I requested a 1-piece neck vs a neck with "wings," the 2 pieces of wood you'll see glued onto most Martin headstocks today. I also had the back of the head stamped with the Martin logo, which is a detail from Martin's history that I love. I upgraded the tuners to Waverlys and went with the low profile neck shape and 1 11/16" at the nut.

The binding on the waist of the guitar and the lower bout started to come loose, so I had the guitar repaired by a Martin-authorized luthier. You can see that the finish is a little cracked in those areas in my photos. I also found a minor issue with the case: The leather on one side of the handle was loose and sawdust and little pieces of plywood from the handle started to come out of the hole. I've reglued the leather, but I'm not sure if this is a permanent fix yet.

The guitar plays and sounds great. Martin chose really nice mahogany for the back, and you'll see it has a little flame in it.
