This Pearl rainstick is in very good condition, with some defects in its body/finish. There are some wood pieces on the body protruding throughout, that should be treated with care/caution. Pearl’s rainsticks are known for their beauty and sound, for their select tone woods and their artistic designs. This one is a 32 in. bamboo model with a painted finish that depicts a tribal mask. It has an earthy color palette with simple geometry and meticulous detail that makes it almost look hand-beaded. The design, called Tribal Mask, was selected for its sense of ceremony and its reverence for the concept of tribe and community.
It has a 2.5 in. diameter, which gives it a complex and enchanting resonance. They work by a maze of tines that react with a gentle, but crisp rhythmic tone as a cascade of small lava pebbles flow over them. The effect is often described as resembling a gentle steady rainfall.
This rainstick is effective as a large stage shaker, as well as for its more common use as a ceremonial or percussion effect. It is surprisingly present in a live environment, and has a sufficiently complex timbre to be effective in the studio.
