In the massive worlds of rap and electronic music, the Akai MPC is hands-down one of the most important pieces of equipment of all time. The original MPC60, released in 1988 in a collaboration between Akai and the legendary Roger Linn (of LinnDrum fame), provided an intuitive, tactile controller in the hands of producers around the world, allowing them to trigger (with pressure-sensitive pads) a range of samples, treating any waveform like a percussive instrument. By virtue of its simplicity and power, the MPC changed music making as we know it, influencing nearly every genre of music which relied on sampling.

The MPC 2000 XL model, released in Japan in 1999, builds on the legacy of the original MPC and brings it into the modern era, offering a huge range of new features. To name a few: downsampling (to 8 bit), S/PDIF digital I/O, 32-note polyphony, 8 outputs, and a track mute key. It also features simultaneous playback of a second sequence. This is the model that Kanye West used not only in his live performances, but also to record his groundbreaking The College Dropout album, which launched him to hip hop stardom. To find this model in excellent condition is a nice find. Don’t miss this one!

This unit is in good condition, with some signs of age and use overall (see pictures), including some scratches, scuffs.The display has good visibility and the blue casing is clean. This device has been tested by our professional technician and is working perfectly.
