About This Listing

There have been no repairs or modifications to this guitar. It is sound. I am not lifting my description of this beautiful J45 from CPT chat. Instead I will provide you with the real deal on the provenance of this beautiful Gibson. Anyone who is looking to purchase a J45 is likely already aware of what a superb acoustic machine it is. It offers vintage charm and renowned sound quality. The superb tonal quality of this acoustic is unparalleled and musicians know this and therefore know its value.

"For those who may not know: The Gibson Guitar Corporation (Gibson for short) was founded in 1902 and is now based in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. It is one of the oldest and best-known US manufacturers of stringed instruments – banjos, mandolins, guitars, electric guitars and basses – as well as guitar amplifiers. Many of the world’s most famous musicians play and played Gibson instruments."

This J45 was purchased in the late 80s in Austen Texas out of the back-door garage of a rough and tumble ole Southern gent. I can tell you, he was quite the character. I was just starting out in a little band North of the boarder so I was in need of a quality guitar and I sure lucked out with this one. The seller seemed like an honest dude and I was told that the guitar was hawked by a female blues musician who needed some scratch for her accommodation and food while on the road. Her name was either Letty or Hetty but I am not entirely sure.  Wish I had written that tidbit down but at the time it didn’t mean much to me.

This Gibson served me well. It went on to be my steady workhorse in my band. It was an absolute joy to play.

This vintage J45 is solid and in great condition for its age. The neck and body is sound with no cracks other than the usual surface scratches, crazing on the lacquer which is common for a guitar this age and a minor ding but nothing that compromises its integrity. It plays perfectly and is wonderfully adjusted. Low action, straight neck and well preserved frets.  Numbered: U672 28. Comes with a new standard hard case.

This beautiful instrument is an investment in time, quality and is an increasingly rare find.  Pictures were sent to Gibson to establish authenticity or modifications and to the best of their knowledge this J45 is completely authentic in every way. There have been no repairs to this guitar.

So, if you are looking for a guitar that has history and heart, one that’s seen a few things and has a few stories of its own to tell, then this J45 fits the bill.  It has served me well over the past 35 years and I am certain it will do the same for you in years to come.

Product Overview
The Gibson J-45 acoustic guitar can be heard across decades of recordings in the hands of country stars, folk legends, singer-songwriters and solo instrumentalists. It is one of America's most iconic acoustic guitars. Its sloped shoulders and more mellow tone set it apart from Martin's legendary dreadnoughts. Those exact quirks are the reason so many have fallen in love with the Gibson J-45. Vintage specimens (especially pre-1970) are incredibly collectible, while more modern specimens are studio and touring favorites of working musicians.
