Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a unique Shure Brother's PE-54D model dynamic microphone manufactured during the late 1960's & 1970's but was only sold for about 10 years before being discontinued. It comes with a newer Shure A25 model mic clip and cable in which to operate.
Pic # 2 shows this very model mic as well as a few other models in an older 1970's catalog I have showing the PE54D's basic specs.
Pic # 3 shows the very similar PE54 model being used by Paul Butterfield who preferred using this model mic when performing live in concert. The PE-54 and PE-54D were the exact same mic. The only difference was that the PE-54 had the lower pistol grip and took a different type of cable. Otherwise they utilized the same upper tube and cartridge with the high Z setting.
The PE-54D is not well known and is often mistaken for the more common Shure 545SD as the two look identical except for that the PE-54D was factory set at high impedance as where the 545SD was factory set at low impedance. The PE-54D lacks the heavier bass that the 545S has so it's ideal for using with a harmonica. Also if you have a deep voice like mine then the PE-54D just sounds better as it neutralizes that deep tone. The PE-54D mic was originally intended to be a general purpose mic that was rugged and had a very quality build.
Physically speaking this mic is in excellent overall condition with extremely lite wear and honestly one of the nicest examples you could ask for considering it's age. It has a satin chrome handle is excellent and has a very nice luster. The Shure black badge shows just very lite scuff marks and the on / off switch works flawlessly. No issues. The front screen is free of any dents, odors or tarnish. The inner pop filter was all but gone so a new one was installed to help with the sound characteristics.
The mic comes with a new Shure A25 model mic clip and it grips the mic very nicely. The mic clip gives you plenty of tilt up and down depending on your needs and it will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have.
The mics XLR pins were cleaned to ensure a perfect connection / signal once a cable is attached. The mic takes a standard XLR cable which is provided. The cable is in excellent physical and operating condition and has two Switchcraft connectors. The cable is appx 22 feet in length.
This is only the third PE-54D I have had to offer in almost a year as they are getting harder and harder to find especially in good working order. The last two I came across were non-working so this one is kind of a treat for me. If you demand a better example of a PE-54D then this is your go to.
I would rate the cosmetic condition of this mic a true 9 on a scale of 1 - 10.
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE AND USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
