Professionally printed on heavyweight 260gsm satin poster paper and a generous A2 size 420mm x 594mm (16 1/2in x 23 3/8in) the Simmons SDS9 is still as eye-catching today (especially when paired with a set of Paiste Colorsounds) as it was when they were introduced almost 40 years ago.
Developed at a cost of £100,000 (almost £300,000 in 2023 money) the SDS9 pads were Simmons full-on foray into mass production to meet soaring demand and address the now well-worn criticism of playability.
While lacking the sexiness and soul that makes the original handmade V so sought after the injection-moulded SDS9 still retains the iconic geometric styling that came to be synonymous with 80's.
