An excellent EQ stock that is very musical and often overloaked, the DN 410 has all the features you could ever want in an EQ, but there are some shortcomings that dont work in a top end studio.
The sound: Stock, These tend to sound a bit grainy before modifications and a bit harsh when boosting certain bands with early distortion. The sounds is mid forward and focused sounding but not the most musical, though the bands do sound good when cutting or boosting.
About the modifications:
We do a full audio path upgrade on this model, replacing every audio amp in the circuit including all bands and I/O with High performance Burr Brown amps.
The audio path is further upgraded but changing audio cap values and types for lower noise and more musicality.
The power power supply is modified as well with Low ESR caps and bypassing is performed for even lower noise still. When we are done we end up with a a very musical EQ with 10+db more headroom better bandwidth and lower noise.
The musicality of the unit is very positively impacted with a lot more warmth from the modifications as well as the KLARK output transformers which have a nice warm character as well.
With the modifications these are a great EQ for almost any task but I find them to be best suited for tracking things like drums where they can add snap and attack as well as punch to the Kick and snare or Tom buss.
