About This Listing

Up for sale is this wonderful 1961 Gibson J-45. The guitar is in good vintage condition. It shows some player wear and for good reason. It’s an exceptionally nice sounding example of the model.

See the video demo for a taste of the sounds. The guitar is original from the finish to the frets. It’s had some basic servicing done to it over its lifetime, including a bridge reglue. The neck angle is good and it is not in need of a neck reset. The frets have been leveled during its lifetime. The guitar also has a repaired pickguard crack very typical of the model. It’s the Gibson equivalent of the “b string” crack you find on Martins. The crack develops as the guard shrinks and runs parallel to the sound hole side. It will happen eventually on nearly all vintage Gibsons unless the guard is taken off and reglued.

The guitar has the somewhat slimmer neck from the early 1960s. It’s also the wider 1 and 11/16 inch nut width. I find it quite comfortable and enjoyable to play. The guitar is also stamped as a factory second. You can see the little “2“ above the serial number on the back of the head stock. This often appears on the guitar for no apparent reason. It usually just signified a minor cosmetic, blemish or finish floor from the factory. On a used guitar, it is essentially meaningless, since it really only had reference to a minor cosmetic blemish on a brand new instrument.

I will ship this worldwide. But I won’t falsify customs forms.
