Meticulously refurbished Rogers XP8 / XP10 5-piece kit

8x12, 9x13, 16x16, 14x24, plus 5x14 XP10 "Super Ten" snare

XP8 and XP10 shells are arguably the finest shells ever produced by Rogers - built respectively from 8 and 10 staggered plies of Prime New England Rock Maple.

Those who know me understand that I do not cut any corners in my restoration, refurbishing and custom drum builds. Every project is a labor of love and subject to my extremely high standards.

These shells were treated to an application of Designholz Rosewood "SaRaiFo" veneer - applied with a full-adhesion method using 3M 30NF adhesive. They were hand-finished by yours truly using hand-rubbed lacquer.

The interiors were sanded and sealed with three applications of raw linseed oil.

The edges are in fantastic condition and are smooth as butter.

All the hardware has been disassembled, deep cleaned, polished and lubricated. Any fittings / lugs which were not VG or better have been replaced with Rogers NOS (new old stock) pieces from Al Drew's Music of Rhode Island. All the most visible lugs are NOS - the less visible lugs show evidence of use and age with some very mild pitting. The hoops are original and also veneered - one hoop was in need of repair, but is now rock-solid (I stabilized the damaged area using very strong wood epoxy).

The snare was built from one of the very last NOS 5X14 Rogers XP10 shells from Al Drew's Music. This is an extremely rare piece, as the original run of 5x14 XP10 snares were produced in a very limited quantity. It is a 10-Lug snare. Precision drilling, edges and beds by Chris Mattoon. The lugs are all NOS from Al Drew's Music. The throw-off, butt plate, and internal tone control are the new Rogers re-issue Dynasonics. Brand new 2.3mm triple-flanged hoops and tension rods from Worldmax. The drum will ship with the Remo Classic Fit Coated Ambassador batter head and the Evans reso head pictured, as well as the Tama Starclassic Bell Brass snare wires. Drum was finished with the same veneer and dye lots as the kit.

I chose to use the Rogers "script" badges, as they are far more appealing than the "Big R" foil badges (IMO).

This kit is gorgeous and is a dream to play.
