About This Listing

A real dream guitar and lovely piece of history is this beautiful Martin D-18 1944 – very balanced and with a warm and clear vintage voice!
It has all the desired pre-war features and is one of those “holy grail” acoustic guitars, to say the least!

We are proud that we’ve landed this beautiful Martin D-18 that comes to us from all the way back in 1944. Pre-war Matin dreadnought guitars are very rare and sought after.

What can we say about the sound? … this really is the holy grail. We’ve never heard anything quite like it. Big, open, very proud … just incredibly good sounding. These guitars are also legendary for their dynamic, projection and sustain. This guitar is a prime example of that. Lightweight and agile, the neck is smooth to the touch and it plays easily.

It is in great condition for the age. Several cracks have been professionally repaired and it has a very professional refinish. The guitar has also received a neck reset along with a new bridge and bridge plate.

It comes with a newer guitar case.

This is the real vintage deal for a D-18 that’s seen miles of action, and is ready for a whole lot more.

Product Overview
Along with its Rosewood counterpart, the D-28, the Martin D-18 stands as one of the true original dreadnoughts introduced by Martin in 1932. The D-18 made a switch from a 12-fret to a 14-fret instrument in 1934 and has stayed largely the same since, with just the occasional change in wood source or cosmetic detail. Since the D-18 uses Mahogany instead of Rosewood, it is thought to have a somewhat crisper sound with more definition the top-end.
