This is a very well played and 100% original 1937 Martin D-18. It has all the famed hallmarks of this era (Adirondack spruce top, forward shifted x-brace, etc.) and is a dream to play. It retains its original finish, bridge, bridge plate, bridge pins, tuners, endpin, and everything else that’s often been replaced or altered on these. It also comes with the original upgraded hammered hardshell case. The case could use some restoration, but is actually still functional. All latches work and it is in one piece, albeit in need of some new nails in places. This Martin was played… heavily, and the second you pick it up it’s clear why. It has that magic that we all hope to find in an old instrument.

lt’s been an honor to have this instrument in my possession and be able to play it regularly. I’ll spare everyone the purple prose and just say that the guitar always sounds like itself, despite being able to comfortably play in almost any style. With fingers or a pick, back by the bridge or over the fingerboard, all across the dynamic spectrum: it always maintains its personality and tone. It really is a magnificent instrument.

The guitar was lovingly repaired by Elderly Instruments’ shop manager, Joe Konkoly, back in 2020. It received a neck reset, full refret, had several cracks cleated and glued, a brace reglued, a new saddle, the bridge reglued, and the bridge plate patched at that time. Elderly created a ten-part video series on the restoration process that can be found on their YouTube channel. I don’t believe I can link the videos in this description, but I’m happy to point anyone in the right direction if they message me. The videos were part of Elderly’s “In the Shop” series and ran from July 9th to November 5th of 2020. They will give a very thorough breakdown of the condition of this guitar and I highly recommend that anyone interested in purchasing it watch them.

Offers are absolutely welcome and all will be considered. I’m happy to arrange shipping, but would prefer an in-person pickup or drop-off, if possible. Thanks for reading and please watch the video demo to get an idea of the sound of the instrument. Thanks!
