In the early 1980s, the was far from the legendary status it enjoys today. It had been created as a market competitor to the and would be discontinued in 1984 due to underperforming sales. So when the Super Tube Screamer was introduced in 1983, the designers didn’t think of it as a perfection of the Tube Screamer’s legacy, but a desperation move to continue selling analog pedals when most guitarists were becoming enamored with flashy new digital effects that were sure to become the future.
So the ST-9 was little more than a curiosity and didn’t make any major waves. This is why it’s not surprising that it was only made in very small quantities, and only sold in Europe between 1983 and 1984. (The pedal was also available inside Japan under the Maxon brand name, and even fewer of these exist.) Dual JRC4558D chip circuit, with more gain than a TS-9 plus mid-frequency controls. There was also an Ibanez ST9 badged version of this pedal that was released in some countries outside Japan. Same pedal, both produced by Maxon who were the original designer of all 70's and 80's Ibanez pedals.
Rare Vintage Maxon ST-9 Super Tube Screamer Guitar Effect Pedal. This pedal was only released for 2 years in Japan, while the Ibanez version was released in Europe only. Item works flawlessly. General wear from vintage age. Shipping is calculated USPS from 16105. Thanks for looking and Good Luck!
