Offbeat Guitars "Jackie-O" 30" Scale Bass in Pewter Ceruse Dyed Finish on distressed Eastern White Pine featuring a Walnut Short Scale Neck with Wenge Fretboard, EMG TBJAX Active Pickups and EXB Control, Gotoh Res-O-Lite Tuners, Gotoh Vintage-Style, Solid Brass Bridge, DR Hi-Beam Strings, and Aged Hardware.

Short-scale basses have been promoted as "student models" or for guitar players that want to play bass or for people with small hands. We've seen manufacturers treat them as such, almost like they're an afterthought. (I wouldn't hold my breath for an Ultra Series Mustang to be released anytime soon -- or ever.) And this is with so many great players playing short-scales throughout the decades, including Sir Paul McCartney, Bill Wyman, Jack Bruce, Jack Casady, Phil Lesh, Stanley Clarke, Tina Weymouth, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, and so many more, including Joe Dart, who has his own short-scale signature model.

This is a great playing bass both standing and seated. The active EMG TBJAX gives it more of a Jazz bass tone, but with a Thunderbird look. The EXB control boosts highs and reduces mids to give you an instant slap EQ curve with just a twist of a knob. And believe me, you'll want to slap it.

The bass body is made from knotty and highly distressed Eastern White Pine with Pewter Ceruse dyed finish with grain highlighting. It is adorned with aged nickel hardware.

The 20 fret walnut neck with a wenge fretboard features carbon fiber stiffening rods. The nut width is a Jazz bass sized 1.5", and the finish is a satin oil/poly blend. The neck gets sanded to 600 grit, while we bullet nose the fret ends and polish them to a smooth 12,000 grit. All of which makes it a real joy to play.

A set of DR Strings Hi-Beam stainless steel strings runs between a Gotoh vintage-style, solid brass bridge over a Tone Ninja nut to a set of Gotoh Res-O-Lite tuners.

The bass weighs in at a nice and light 6.95 lbs, but it balances perfectly on a strap thanks to the lightweight Gotoh tuners (and also because it's a short-scale, in case you missed that earlier). At that weight, you can rock out all night, and still have enough energy left over to help your band mates load up their equipment. (Like that's going to happen.)

The bass comes with a 20mm padded Gator 4G gig bag.
