About This Listing

Martin D-28 1947

SN:  102775

Wonderful example of a well played Martin D-28. This guitar has had an appraisal from George Gruhn via pictures on 1/22/24 and valued at $12,500.  In this appraisal all the various issues that can be found via images are outlined in detail.  (Appraisal available upon request)

Upon inspection of the inside of the guitar we encountered issues such as replaced bridge plate, broken kerfing (repaired), and a few various other repairs which we believe would detract from the appraisal value if they were presented to Gruhn.  We also believe it has been oversprayed at least on the back.

Such issues as described by Gruhn:  "Upon examination, we note the following modifications and condition issues: the bridge has been replaced, there are 10 visible top cracks (e.g., with 4 of significant length), there is one visible back crack, and a metal strap button has been added to the treble-side of the heel."

-more

"Sitka spruce top with non-scalloped X-bracing and natural top finish (e.g., sunburst top finish was also available), Brazilian rosewood peghead overlay, back, and sides, “checkerboard style” wood marquetry center back stripe (e.g., correct for late 1947 examples), classic “5-9-5” multi-ply white & black soundhole rosette, “lower belly style” ebony bridge with “through style” saddle, white bridge pins with black center dots, mahogany neck with white heel cap and diamond-shape volute, gold-color “C.F. Martin & Co.” logo peghead decal, individual nickel-plated “single line” Kluson Deluxe tuners with metal buttons, 20-fret ebony fingerboard (e.g., 14 frets clear of the body) with graduated-size mother-of-pearl dot inlays, multi-ply white & black edge binding on body top and back (e.g., use of “herringbone” wood marquetry top edge trim is discontinued early in the year 1947), and other typical style 28 appointments. We were unable to make an in-hand assessment of the fret condition, bridge plate, internal bracing and kerfing, but for the purposes of this appraisal we assume them to be correct (e.g., no diagnostically relevant photos of the interior components were provided to Gruhn Guitars, and it is not possible to accurately assess the condition of frets and truss-rod operation from photos). No information concerning a case was provided to Gruhn Guitars."

Comes in a very nice heavy duty Ameritage Hard Shell Case (as seen in photos).
