Original Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer from February 1982.
Chassis has some dents, scratches and paint chips, but pedal functions normally. Foot switch, jacks, pots and LED fully functioning. Input jack was professionally replaced because original was faulty (original jack included in small bag). The pedal is missing the label on its base, presumably due to velcro applied and then removed by a previous owner.
I dated the pedal as being from February 1982 following the YouTube video embedded in this listing. The evidence to support this conclusion:
- The pedal is labelled as being an 'Ibanez' TS9, however all internals are labelled 'Maxon' (e.g. battery cover, circuitboard); this is due to the fact that early-80s Ibanez Tube Screamers were in fact manufactured by Maxon
- Wires connecting capacitors, resistors and other elements on the circuit-board are green
- Circuit board is labelled 'MP-D012018 MAXON KU'
- Capacitor labelled 'H8208' refers to year of manufacture ('82' = 1982) and week of the year ('08' = the 8th week being the last week of February), pinpointing this pedal as being from February 1982
This pedal was part of my 'SRV-esque' rig (Strat into Tube Screamer into Fender-y amp) for some time and delivers a noticeable mojo that's missing from newer units and other overdrives. Sounds excellent as your main drive, boost, or EQ shaper to stand out in the mix, and delivers that very expressive compression and musical saturation it's famous for. This unit is a must-own for blues-infatuated Strat-players, and in this particular case, a beautiful example of a 'real one'.
