The label indicates this violin was made by in Irvine, Kentucky, by Billy Stamper. It is not dated and appears almost new, with very little wear from playing. The one-piece back is made of gorgeous, highly figured curly maple, with the ribs and neck of the same wood. The top is of two pieces of book-matched spruce of a straight, tight grain at the center, getting slightly wider at the flanks.
Parisian-eye pegs set off the well-carved scroll, and the hand applied varnish shows off the beauty of the wood. The violin has a new bridge, Helicore strings, and fine tuners. The instrument has a big, robust tone, with warmth and projection.
