About This Listing

This is a neat early Mustang Bass from Fender. This 1966 model sports a Dakota Red finish with all original parts and electronics.

The bass and original case are extremely clean. There is checking on the body and headstock, as well as some light dings and topical scratches. The back of the neck has a finish blem where it rests in the case as many of these do. The foam for the mutes has long since disintegrated. There is no damage or any major dents.

The bass plays quite well up and down the neck. The original frets show a hint of wear, but nothing that impedes tone or playability. The neck is a full C shape with a nice shoulder, while the round lam board has nice grain and is adorned with pearl dot inlays.

These basses are super fun and just easy to play and enjoy. This one weighs in at 7lbs 11oz. It ships in the original hardshell case.

Product Overview
Introduced two years after the Mustang guitar, the Mustang Bass was the first student-level bass produced by Fender as well as the last production bass designed by Leo Fender before he left the company. Targeted towards younger players, the Mustang Bass offered a shorter 30-inch scale length as well as a lower price-point than the Precision or Jazz Basses of the mid-'60s. The split single-coil pickup was also smaller than that of the P Bass, but still captured a wide range of bass tones.
