The axatse (pron. ah-ha-cheh) of the Ewe people of Ghana and Togo is a type of netted gourd rattle found elsewhere in West and Central Africa under various names, including jabara (Mali) and shegbureh (Sierra Leone). The axatse or similar rattle appears to have given rise to the Haitian asson and the Brazilian afoxe.
Our version features red, blue, and yellow beads, which are strung onto white netting.
Dimensions: 12 1/2" h., 6" diam.
