This Barry Piccolo 3.5 x 14 snare drum is very clean. There is JUST ONE original clip missing. However, there is a clip that has been put in its stead. I have used guitar strings for snares which is perfectly acceptable. Customize it and change the way it sounds by choosing the strings (eh em - snares - pardon me). Have owned it since the early 1990's. This drum has been looked and cared for over the years. It has been broken down and cleaned as well. Sure, calf skins would look really nice on this one. Not expensive to procure and replace the mylars I have on it now.
