This is a 1975 Martin D-18D, serial# 356761. The D at the end of the model number is a designation that Martin used for their series with factory electronics - specifically the "FRAP" system.
The FRAP system, which stands for Flat Response Audio Pickup, was a very early, ultra-high quality active Piezo-type pickup system, but instead of the element being a strip under the saddle it is a small sensor glued to the underside of the top in the bridge area.
The FRAP system has mostly been removed except for the compartment on the neck block as pictured. The system was removed as it added a lot of weight to the guitar and required 8.8V mercury batteries. All of the electronic components will come with the guitar. The hole for the factory original volume knob was left and not patched (pictured) in case the factory electronics were re-installed. The guitar had a strap button on the neck heel at some point that has been removed (also pictured).
The original rotomatic tuning machines have been replaced with open gear tuners for weight reduction and ease-of-use. The fingerboard and bridge are gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood.
The guitar comes in a modern martin geib style 5-ply case. The case retails on sweetwater for over $500. The case has some nicks in the tolex covering, but in good condition overall.
