A Look Into Redstripedown's Modular Synth Live Performance Rig | Patch Work

Cory Sterling, better known as RedStripeDown, is a Chicago-based electronic music producer and sound designer. After studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Cory settled in New York City, where he became enamored with electronic music hardware and Eurorack modular synthesizers. His discovery of the modular synthesizer led to a slew of regular jam video posts on social media, and he was eventually recognized as one of the early innovators in the burgeoning Eurorack community.

In addition to using his modular rig, Cory also uses drum machines, samplers, and standalone synths to create delicate rhythms and melodies with evolving grooves and textures. He's now teaching synthesis, frequently performing in the Chicago area, and taking on various sound design projects.

Get the Gear

We welcomed Cory to the Reverb studio to chat about some of the modules that make up his live performance rig, including offerings from Make Noise, Qu-Bit Electronix, Instruo, Elektron, and more. He also shares one of the secret spices in his rack: a random gate generator that is becoming increasingly rare by the day.

Be sure to check out the full video interview above to hear Cory explain his live rig in action, and click through the banner below to see other artists' performance rigs from our Patch Work series.
