FabFilter Releases the Pro-Q 3, a Major Update to Its EQ Plugin

Today, FabFilter has released the brand-new Pro-Q 3, the latest iteration of its popular EQ plugin. The easy-to-navigate interface remains user-friendly, but there's a number of additional complex features now available.

The Pro-Q 3 features up to 24 bands and now allows any of them to be switched to Dynamic EQ mode, letting users easily add compression or expansion to just those selected bands. Likewise, the plugin's mid/side processing can also now be tailored to each individual band.

Other upgrades include surround support (which automatically adjusts to surround from stereo or mono modes), new filter types, and an updated spectrum analyzer that can automatically detect problems between multiple instances of Pro-Q 3—say, for example, on your drum bus and bass track.

For those of you who may have just scored a great deal on Pro-Q 2 in a Black Friday or Cyber Monday sale, rest assured—anyone who bought or registered a Pro-Q 2 after September 29, 2018 will get Pro-Q 3 as a free update.

According to FabFilter, other key features of Pro-Q 3 include:

  • 6-96dB/octave slopes for all filter types
  • Additional Brickwall slope for the High Cut and Low Cut filters
  • Zero Latency, Natural Phase, and Linear Phase processing modes
  • Extremely efficient processing and low memory usage
  • Surround support, including Dolby Atmos 7.0.2 and 7.1.2 formats with flexible surround channel linking
  • Intelligent multiband selection and editing
  • Intelligent band solo mode
  • Powerful real-time spectrum analyzer
  • Spectrum Grab: grab and adjust a peak directly in the spectrum analyzer
  • EQ Match for imposing the tonal characteristics of one signal on another
  • Piano Display switches the frequency scale to musical note values
