Let's get ready to 'Rumble': this week's Find of the Week is a 1962 Gibson SG Standard formerly owned by the godfather of the power chord, Link Wray.
This SG's former owner needs little introduction, but in case you're not familiar: the North Carolina-born guitarist was best known for his 1958 instrumental single, "Rumble", which was among the first songs in rock music to utilize both distortion and tremolo. Bob Dylan once referred to the single as "the best instrumental ever", Iggy Pop once told Stephen Colbert that he "left school emotionally" the moment he first heard the song at a student union meeting, and among several other film and TV appearances, would later be immortalized during the diner sequence in Pulp Fiction.
On top of playing the power chords heard around the world, Rolling Stone ranked Wray as number 45 on their list of the 100 greatest guitarist of all time, and he received two nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before being inducted with the Musical Influence Award earlier this year.
