You ever think about the first guitar you ever loved? Maybe it's the cheap starter your parents got you, or the first name-brand model you could finally afford secondhand after a summer of cutting grass around the neighborhood. It might be the guitar that you'll always regret pawning—or maybe you can picture it sitting in your closet right now, a collection of dust layering the worn frets you haven't played in years.

Canadian punk band PUP's new single is about that guitar. In this case, it's an old Gibson Les Paul Special named Matilda that played her heart out countless stages across the world for years before going up on the shelf in favor of an upgrade. Written by frontman Stefan Babcock about the regret we all feel at shelving a guitar that's become a part of us, "Matilda" is her song—and the comic below is her story.

PUP's new album, THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND, is out April 1. Their tour kicks off later this month in Canada before moving through the States this spring. They'll be in the UK, Australia, and Europe throughout the summer.

Check out PUP's website here to preorder the record, snag some rad merch, and grab your tickets to a show. And be sure to watch out the touching official music video for "Matilda," directed by Jefferson Dutton, below.
