Bob Taylor — one of the co–founders of Taylor Guitars — and Taylor Guitars master builder Andy Powers stopped by the Reverb studio to show off a few instruments for us and talk about their philosophy behind building guitars.
As Taylor and Powers explain in the video, designing and building a guitar is about serving the player no matter where they are in their musical journey. Whether building for a brand new player or a player with more money to spend, the builder's intention when putting together every piece of the instrument must center around the best choice for that specific musician.

Taylor and Powers feel that Taylor Guitars' greatest accomplishments have been the result of their build–from–the–ground–up philosophy, and they've stayed true to that in designing the new Academy Series. The Academy series is comprised of three models: the dreadnought–shaped Academy 10, the curvier grand concert–shaped Academy 12, and a nylon string guitar.
They also showed off their recent accomplishment, the GS Mini–e Bass. By working with D'Addario for a few years to create a nylon core string wound with a heavy foster bronze wrap wire and inventing their own bridge pin, Taylor Guitars was able to create a surprisingly small, 23.5" scale acoustic bass guitar.
