Video: Buying Your First Acoustic Guitar with Marty Schwartz

If you've searched out how to play a specific classic guitar lick on YouTube lately, you may have run into the videos of Marty Schwartz via his Marty Music Channel. Marty releases multiple videos each and every week, including lessons for classic riffs, gear reviews, and more.

This week, we've partnered with Marty to bring a new set of videos that share his opinions on what to consider when buying your first acoustic. It's a topic that every experienced guitarist has an opinion about, but from Marty's perspective, there are a few key things to keep in mind no matter what style of guitar you're interested in playing.

First, you need to decide between a nylon string and steel string. While nylon strings are more comfortable for some beginners, if it's rock or country or other sorts of pop music you're interested in playing, a steel string is the way to go. Next, there's are a variety of different guitar sizes to choose from, from diminutive parlors to massive jumbo styles. Dreadnought acoustics are the most common and are a good choice for most players.

Watch the video above for Marty's recommendations on what to consider when buying a beginner acoustic. And check this article for some of our picks on excellent beginner options.
