Audio-Technica AT4047/SV Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The Audio-Technica AT4047/SV is a large diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone that harkens back to classic FET designs from the 1970s. The specially-tuned capsule and transformer-coupled output give the AT4047 a sound reminiscent of vintage mics that cost thousands of dollars. This workhorse mic is exceptionally detailed, but with a big, warm low-end that makes it ideal for kick drums, bass amps, lead vocals and voiceover applications. When you're up close on a bottom-heavy source, flip on the pad and 80Hz high-pass filter to tame the level and proximity effect before it hits the preamp for clearer sound.
