Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen, a Reverb investor, is being honored with a new signature guitar, the Rick Nielsen 1959 Les Paul Standard.
The hand-crafted Custom Collector’s Choice guitar is based on Nielsen’s own ’59 LP, serial number 9 0655, which he has owned and played constantly, both live and in the studio, for more than 25 years. Nielsen worked with the Gibson Custom Shop to create a replica so convincing that Nielsen intends to retire the original, Gibson said, much to the relief of his road crew, management, and their insurers.
The guitar is available in three different runs:
- a special run of 50 aged and signed guitars, including an aged reissue case, available for preorder from Chicago Music Exchange
- a run of 100 aged guitars, available for preorder from Chicago Music Exchange
- a run of 150 will be available in vintage gloss
All of the guitars in the series are hand-crafted and accurate to historical specifications based on digital scans of Nielsen’s original, replicating its neck shape and dish carve
Chicago Music Exchange will receive five aged and signed Rick Nielsen Les Pauls, which are available for pre-order.
