Released today, the new Sterling by Music Man Pete Wentz Artist Series StingRay offers an accessible entry point into his dynamic punk tones—and it's not without its frills. Pete's StingRay was designed to withstand the rigors of long roads and long setlists. "For me, a bass has to stand up and be able to play a lot of different songs," Pete says. "Also, what I've noticed with these particular basses is they stay in tune well—and we're dealing with going from the air-conditioning of backstage into the heat of summer tour in stadiums and amphitheaters."
Judging by the live shows, the basses even withstand the attachment of a flamethrower—though that's an accessory you'll have to find on your own.
As for the features of the bass, Pete and Sterling by Music Man kept it simple and effective: an Alnico V humbucker for vintage-style warmth and punch, one knob each for volume and tone, and sleek black hardware. The roasted maple neck includes a custom inlay of a loon—a bird that Pete says is "beautiful but really spooky."
